Buying rougher condition Saabs

What are folks thoughts on buying Saabs in rougher cosmetic condition? I'm contemplating buying one that's fairly inexpensive, but the cosmetic condition isn't great. Typical -9-5 dog leg rust, but also some sideswipe damage/rust on both doors and maybe the quarter panel on one side. I see plenty for a lot more money with the dogleg rust and general damage to bumpers and such. These cars were popular in NE urban environments with road salt. The pickings are thin and even newer and costlier cars are in well used condition.
This new car would be to finally learn stick properly and for towing on some longer runs. Long story, but another Saab can't easily use a hitch due to previous damage. Insurance isn't cheap so each car takes the place of another better find. Decisions, decisions. I'll probably at least take an in-person look.
