I use the Magic Mount system - it's magnetic and painless to use. These have a very strong magnet which holds my Iphone 7plus very firmly. My phone has never dropped or shifted in several years of using this system. The adhesives they employ are top-notch 3M products as well.
I use the simplest mount, a small flat magnet that I mount to the left of my radio on my C900 so that it mounts high on the dash, and visible just above my right hand on the steering wheel. I have the wood-grain commemorative dash which provides a very hard smooth surface for attachment and i am sure that helps a lot - I'm not certain that this mounting scheme would be as effective if the adhesive side were attached to softer vinyl. However, they also sell standard suction cup mounts for the windshield as well.
