The Orio Oil Guide recommends 0W40 for all years of the OG 9-5. As far as I can tell, Mobil 1 doesn't make any 0W40 oil any more as was originally specified by SAAB (sticker on car), although other oil manufacturers like Rowe do make that weight with the ACEA A3/B3 and API SM or higher specifications that ORIO requires. It's curious that the link for 0W40 in the ORIO chart takes you to Mobil 1 5W20, 5W30, 10W30 or 15W50, but the 15W50 is the only one that meets ACEA A3/B3. Seems like the 15 could be a little viscous for cold weather, but I don't know since I've never tried that. I still have some 0W40 Mobil 1 on the shelf and I have no unusual consumption problems with my 9-5s that have used that from the beginning. And I have a 2000 and two 2001s that have never had a sludge issue. Of course I use the latest PCV system (change every five years) and installed that on the cars as soon as it became available way back when, so that might be the key.
