This will not take effect until 2021 and it’s part of Volvo maintaining a safety focus for their brand, not an attempt to out-green competitors.
In any event, Baruth just strikes me as one of those writers who intentionally overwrites in a snarky and condescending tone. Always one quip too clever, etc. You see lots of it in the sports pages.
Don’t want a decent looking, safe car limited to 112 mph / 180 kph? Real simple. Don’t buy it.
An additional point to be made is that a 6500 mile recent trip around the US showed me that there a few roads decent enough to safely exceed 90 mph, let alone 112 or higher. (You can barely run 65 mph on parts of I-70 in Indiana and Ohio because of the horrific pavement condition. Shameful!) We simply do not put the money into our freeways like some Euro countries do.
And, as the Rotes Kreuz advises, ‘Nicht Sneller als 130!’ That’s about 81 mph for those of you playing at home. Words to live by — literally — unless you’re on a track.
