Hello Justin,
I live in Palmer, Alaska. I have lived in places like Kodiak and Utqiagvik (formerly known as Barrow). I think I am going to build a Toppola from scratch. I am still assembling my 1990 900 turbo. Currently, I am working on rebuilding a manual transmission that will be stout enough to push the wind. I was using eEuroparts.com but this past month they were bought out by New Parts. LLC and no longer ship to Alaska. I will stay focused and get this project completed.
I'll call it a Saab Cache and use a Moose in the Saab logo for an emblem. I'm still working on that. The Saab culture is changing from the persnickety and impeccable Saab owner to the DIY restoration and maintenance culture. I love my Saab but I am feeling the pressures of owning a zombie car (the company is dead but the cars are still roaming the roads). Mostly, today's Saab restoration is about cutting out rust and welding in clean steel.
I plan on equipping my 900 turbo with a factory trailer hitch. I have located one in Alaska. I just need to set a price and buy it. I also want to modify the front bumper to include a winch hidden behind a front license plate. I plan on using an air suspension in the rear and exploring other suspension modifications, tires, and rims to support the many rugged Alaska gravel roads. I want it to still look like a clean 900 turbo with a Toppola.
I try to set up a build progress thread as I get the transmission back together.
Stewart
