This has been posted elsewhere here, but I believe it needs more a more general posting.
Jack Lawrence of Motorsport Service in New York passed away on Monday.
Jack was very well known in V4 Saab performance circles. He accomplished a pretty impressive feat with winning an SCCA national class title in I believe 1983 in his highly developed Sonett III.
To my knowledge he was one of the true gentlemen of very competitive amateur sports car racing.
He and his wife Pat ran an auto business that through Jack's work to reach the national title
developed some very significant performance knowledge and parts for the V4 and other Saabs.
I think most notable regarding his title win was that he did it in a car that most of his competition considered a real long shot in both its OE configuration and it's potential for development. Jack worked for many years in trial and error development of the cars chassis and drivetrain against some very significant limitations - especially within development rules in the 'stock' class. After that win he continued developing his Sonett in the 'GT' class designation due to rules limitations in the stock class. His final Sonett that ran in GT was a real amazing car driven by an amazing driver. Imagine a NASCAR level Saab Sonett III.
He was willing to share the results of all his development work and produced and sold many performance parts for Saabs thru Motorsport Service. He was also very willing to talk about how to accomplish significantly advanced performance in V4 Saabs. He also shared and participated in the overall Saab community.
There is a lot more to the record and story of Jack Lawrence and Saabs. I believe his passing is in some ways the end of an era.
>> All my info above is from memory without double checks and I hope it is accurate.
