Currently getting closer to your position. Our local SAAB mechanic got bought out and nobody here services them now. So it is up to me to fix ours with the help of mechanics who might have never worked on one before. Getting parts in Canada is less easy now as most USA suppliers don't ship to Canada anymore. I think this is related to how orio works with the drop shipping? Our wagon is rusting and over 350k km. My goal is to get over 400k and by then the rust will probably be enough to not justify going further. It wasn't rustproofed until we got it so it has been an ongoing battle. Our other 9-5 is fairly rust free but also around 350k km.
Overall, I don't think it would be too hard to replace a sedan. There are still lower milage ones in good shape that come up from time to time so maybe grab one and oil spray all your cars (I use rust check, and I think it can be done in upstate NY and if not, you could take a drive up to Canada as they are common up here). I have gained at least 5 years by rust proofing the wagon even though it already had some pretty bad rust.
Finding a wagon replacement is hard. Most 9-5 wagons are used up and most other brands do not offer a wagon or don't compare for utility (eg golf wagon is small). We will probably replace ours with a xc70 or v90xc. Either that or give up and get one robust appliance vehicle that can be fixed anywhere (eg highlander) for family road trips and keep a few Saabs for around town. We do long trips through areas with few mechanics who can do European vehicles so there is definitely a risk of getting stranded.
What I have found is that deals on used cars are few and far between these days, at least in Canada. It almost makes better financial sense to buy new or lease. I think the dealers have figured out how to work on a basis of lower supply and higher price and the discounting that was common before the pandemic (and upside down lease buyouts) are a thing of the past. So I am trying to wait it out as long as possible...
