Insurance adjusters will do anything to reduce the cost of a repair. The body shop you are dealing with should help you. Maybe get another estimate or 2 to bolster your valuation. If you can validate the condition of the car before the accident this might help. You could also look into getting an agreed value type of insurance. (I don't remember what its called) Essentially you go to your insurance company and insure the car for a particular value, before an accident. This is what your company will pay for a claim. Would another company pay out at that value, I don't know, but it is something that establishes value. I don't know what happens when the claim goes above the "value" of the car. Can the other company call it a complete loss and just write a check for the value they determined, I don't know. Good luck.
