One of my cars is a 1970 Volvo 1800E. Many of the mechanical parts are shared with similar vintage Volvo sedans/wagons (140s and 240s) and there are enough of them on the road that Volvo still supplies parts. I did an engine rebuild a couple of years ago and needed a couple of unique fasteners immediately for the final assembly, so I went over to the dealer. The older parts guy told me that when they did their last remodel, management decided to throw out the microfiche and reader - oops. I was able to find the part number on my phone from a different source, and they had exactly the four pieces that I needed in stock.
I also bought a genuine Volvo windshield from them when I came armed with the part number - again they had no way of looking it up. No shipping charge since it came on the same truck with their other service parts.
