You've missed my point entirely. We do pay relatively high taxes. Our public services are not third rate. Some of them, esp. transport could certainly do with improving. As for education and healthcare, I don't think you've really looked at the rest of Europe. A very large chunk of our tax goes into our ridiculously over-inflated welfare system, which we are so proud of. Have a look at the figures for where the money goes, they're shocking.
This year, the number of people out of work, claiming benefit, is the lowest in over 20 years, but it is still over 1 000 000!! And we're proud of that! What is wrong with our society, IMVHO, is that there is a large proportion of people who take, and the rest of us are quite happy to give.
If you want to change things, forget your 'dump the pump' protests, and tackle the problem at its root. Complete reform of the welfare system, so that it exists to help out those in trouble, in dire need, and not as an easy life for unemployed layabouts and single mothers.
Sorry about the non-Saab nature of the thread. Won't do it again.
