Here's what Volvo has to say on competition with Saab Posted by Andrew [Email] (#1013) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Andrew) on Sun, 3 Dec 2000 15:14:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In the January '01 issue of Automobile Magazine, you'll find "5 Minutes with Hans Olov Olsson," CEO of Volvo Cars.
Automobile: Who are Volvo's competitors today? Is Saab still a competitor?
Olsson: To some extent, in some of the segments, we are competing with Saab. WE are competing with Audi, with Mercedes-Benz, with Honda, and with Volkswagen. What is happening now with Volvo, we have the ambition to grow in volume and now we are in three distinctive segments. So that means [in] our feature we have to conquest. So some of the brands that I mentioned are suddenly going to [compete for] Volvo customers in the future.
Hmmm... I'd say that Volvo and Saab compete heavily. Look at their model line ups:
S40 competes with 9-3 base
S60 base and GLT compete with 9-3SE
S60 T5 competes with 9-3SE, Viggen, 9-5 Aero
S70 wagon competes with 9-5 Wagon (all variants)
S80 competes with 9-5.
S80 T6 competes with 9-5 Aero.
C70 convert competes with 9-3 convert.
The only odd-ball out Volvo is the C70 coupe, which isn't selling well right now anyways!
