A friend of mine was interested in European delivery of a 9-3. All three South Florida dealers tried to discourage her from doing this. They refused to help in any manner in getting financing for the vehicle. They said that they (the dealers) weren't making any money on the transaction, so they felt no obligation to help her. A call to SAAB in Norcross was of no use, since SAAB will not allow factory finance rates (SAAB Finance or Chase) on European Delivery Sales.
My friend ended up getting a Volvo S40, as Volvo USA was willing to call her credit union, track the assembly of the car and arranged for the VIN number to be disclosed to the credit union prior to her leaving the US so a check could be cut to the Volvo dealer. Even with the cooperation of Volvo, she said it was very tough dealing with the CU, as they don't want to pay $$$ for a vehicle that is not in the country at the time of sale.
I doubt that a normal bank would touch this type of financing with a 10' pole. Leasing on European delivery would also seem to be out of the question.
It would seem that the European delivery is only for those that can afford to pay cash. That's a shame, since SAAB does offer some nice deals even without incentive financing.
Just my 2 euro cents worth
