about 9-10 years ago, my 82 900S was having gearbox problems. I went to Rick Stanley at S&S who immediately diagnosed the problem as the pinion gear after driving out of his parking lot. Of course, he offered to fix it, but I declined and ended up buying parts from him to fix it myself (the largest DIY I've attempted!). My feeling at the time was that he was very competent, and his prices were reasonable. Later I went in to buy parts and it seemed his prices had risen, but there are no SAAB dealers convenient in Northern Virginia (International Motors in Falls Church is hard to get to from Fauquier/Prince William Counties... - and that's also where Rick was trained).
Sorry I can't speak for more recent dealings as I moved to Vermont 7 years ago where there are more convenient dealers and independent mechanics - even if I've managed to do everything myself to my three SAABs to date.
Sorry to hear if Rick is not maintaining a good business there, as he fought a long time to even get Warrenton to let him put that business in that location - maybe it's been too successful?
