And the fine print... Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Thu, 11 Jan 2001 11:46:21 In Reply to: AIIHS rates BMW X5 'best vehicle ever [crash] tested', Jo K, Wed, 10 Jan 2001 17:08:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The actual quote from the AIIHS is:
"In fact, this (the X5) is the best midsize utility vehicle the Institute has tested."
Note, 'midsize utility vehicle'. Next quote from the AIIHS webpage:
"test results can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight. Like full-width crash test results, the results of offset tests cannot be used to compare vehicle performance across weight classes."
Your point is well taken, that Saab would hopefully have a SUV with safety on par with its cars. But since the platform will probably be handed to Saab engineer by GM, there is only so much they can do.
"This is the best thing I've ever eaten" is a lot different than "This is the best dog crap I've ever eaten"
