Ford made a sporty hatchback. It is no more of a copy than the SAAB 9-5 is a copy of the Volvo S60 or S80. Ford saw an opportunity to catch the growing small sporty hatchback wave - good for them. At least they're not chasing a long-past wave (all those 'me-too' SUVs pouring into dealer lots).
I can't count the number of small sporty hatchbacks offered in Europe - I'm glad that there is are now some more offerings here, besides the Civic Hatchback, the VW Golf, and some crap from Korea. Let Ford give VW a run for the money - ultimately the consumer benefits from some friendly competition. THe GTI will be hard to out-match though - it's quite a pocket rocket.
BTW - I am not pro-Ford... I just think they did a pretty good job on the Focus Hatchback. It could be better, though (more power, lose the ZX3 monicker).
Just my opinion - and we all know what's been said about opinions.
