Greetings:

I spent a couple of hours today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. I was somewhat disappointed with SAAB's presence there--not much was going on. A nearly full line-up of 9-3s and 9-5s was there, including a Viggen coupe and convertible. All the cars on display were either silver or black; some brighter colors might have spiced things up and helped draw more attention. Only a handful of visitors came into the display area, and most of them only to sit in the Viggen convertible and exclaim in surprise at its price. In contrast, other European brands--Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, BMW (and Mini Cooper)--were attracting large crowds with both production automobiles and concept cars. SAABs aren't for everybody, but even so a bit more excitement might help draw others to the fold.
