I have seen 900's with blown motors at 90K miles as well as still running strong at 300K miles. They can definantly last a long long time but you MUST consider how the owner takes care of it. If it was neglected (not following maintenance) it will not last but properly cared for, it can go a very long time.
I would look at how the body of the car is (rust anywhere) as well as the service records. If the car's body is in good shape & the car is being sold for the right price, buy it & even if the motor does let go at 250K, they can be found at junkyard for reasonable prices.
just a thought & if you do decide you want the car, take it to a mechanic for a once over, they can tell you the condition :o)
GM
87 SPG 205K miles & a very sick motor due to mechanic screwing up work
88 SPG with 160K (pick it up wed) & still going like new :o)
