I read in a local newspaper article that Saab really wants to expand its model line to appeal to a broader market, but continue to keep that unique Saab feel. These changes probably won't be seen until model year 2003 (late in 2002) mostlikely with the release of the new 9-3. The Saab SUV is supposed to be its way as a 2002 model.
There was an interview with a new designer at Saab a while back who said that he really wanted to change things and get Saab back to the quirky C900 style, but he got there too late to have any impact on the new 9-3. On the other hand, he said the new 9-3 will be a great car, it just might be a little mainstream like the 9-5.
***BUT*** we won't know what it will look like or drive like until it actually hits the showroom floors (or Saab officially releases a preview photo of the car).
