But didn't the courts recently declare that initiative illegal?
Of course the high fee is a means of adding to the states coffers because they don't get anything by directly taxing your income. (Washington has no income tax and Oregon has no sales tax.) I never figured out where New Hampshire got their money. When I lived there, there was no income tax or sales tax and I didn't pay property tax on the car. I don't remember the registration bing particularly expensive, either.
Oregon fees are $30 for two years. Many Washington residents along the border have been caught illegally registering their cars in Oregon to avoid Washington's high cost.
