I'm in the market, too, for a vehicle to replace my Ford F150. I want room for 5 people and cargo space that will handle a wheelchair. All wheel drive, traction control, stability control, and decent groundn clearance are really nice to have around here.
I prefer a manual transmission (my truck is a 5 speed), so that really limits what's available these days, sad to say. The BMW X5 (3.0 liter six) or Audi allroad are the only SUV's that offer a manual trans with the "amenities" that I would also like (heated leather seats, traction control, etc.). A few others offfer a manual, but only on the "base" model.
If forced to go with an automatic, am considering the Toyota Sequoia (a real nice truck, built in Indiana), 2002 Olds Bravada (or GMC Envoy), and Mercedes Benz ML (in spite of the styling). The Land Cruiser is also nice, but more expensive. The Buick Rendevouz looks pretty good on paper, but is stuck with the weak 3.4 liter pushrod V6. I sure hope that Saab's version of this vehicle comes with a better engine.
I would love to add Saab and VW to my list, but plan to make the move by summer, so that might not cut it. I would hope that the SUV's from these two companies would be offered with a manual transmission.
