I have been using a clay bar and lubricant from Griot's garage for aboutsix years now on several Saabs, and think it is the best way to clean a paint finish. I have not waxed my car at all during this time, and feel it is a waste of time, at least on a "Daily Driver". The time involved in doing a car with a clay bar is a fraction of the time I used to spend polishing and waxing. I believe that for an everyday driver, the protectants that are built into the paint are more than enough to keep the finish in good shape, and the clay treatment is the most practical way to remove things that adhere to the paint. For those who take their cars to shows, or who have time on their hands, waxing is probably just the final step in getting a great appearance. I know it's going to rain anyway, since I just washed my car!
