The vehicle was an '01 9-5 SE.

The fading was a serious problem. In one case, on a level street, we "lost it" for two blocks. More typically, the fading would only be for a couple of seconds. My friend - who has been "living" with it - said this was consistent. He also said that they were planning to add ground based repeaters in certain markets to fill in the holes.

The programming is about what you would get on your satellite or digital cable TV service. While there are a lot of channels for different types of music, downside to this (other than the commercials) is that there is only ONE channel for a given type of music. With standard broadcast, you can have a choice of stations playing the same format (and even more commercials <grin>). I find when I want to listen to "classical folk hip-hop from the 80's" on my TV music channels and they are not playing what I like, I generally turn it off altogether since there is no other station to choose from. But hey, this is a software issue which could be changed relatively easy.

Having coast-to-coast coverage is neat but they were able to do this with AM radio by the late 20's - and once you bought your ol' Philco, your costs were done with and the ether was yours for the grabbin'.
