Where are you?
I'm north of Boston. I have had 3 different DSL suppliers - Verizon, Earthlink and Flashcom - and 1 cable supplier - Adelphia.
I currently have BOTH Earthlink DSL AND Adelphia Powerlink installed. For reliable day to day service the Earthlink is the one. For speed on big downloads, the cable gets the nod, or it should, but Adelphia does not deliver the speed it should.
The Powerlink is only so-so - it is not as reliable as the Earthlink, and it is only slightly faster. It is no where near as fast as it should be. Adelphia's tech support is ghastly, especially compaired to Earthlink. Long (45 min to 1 hour) waits on hold, then lots of polite so-called help, then you get kicked upstairs to the next level of support. I figured this was good, until I found that this ALWAYS happens - they have an endless supply of next-higher levels of support. It is a complete run around, or, as my wife says, a Mobius strip. They are polite, act like they are helping, then pass you off to another queue - just one big circle.
One thing that helped a great deal with the cable - I replaced all of the cable in the house with RG-6, and replaced all splitters with 1,000 MHz minimum units. I used the best stuff available at Radio Shack. That upgrade has improved the reliability of the system greatly, and has eliminated most, but not all, of my down time. Before the system would lose synch because of signal loss within my house.
Earthlink has been good - good tech support, short waits on hold, excellent customer service, and NO down time. I've had them now for 20 months, and I have no complaints. They operate as a professional company. Their price is going up, though, to $50/mo, and DSL is simply no where near as fast as cable should be.
I don't consider the Adelphia Powerlink to be a real product. They are amatures.
