1) This doesn't fit the profile of a terrorist act. It was an international flight and the terrorists seem to like to keep it domestic so as to ensure alot of American casualties. Also, the terrorists want to generate fear by leaving no doubt in our minds that a deliberate attack took place. The terrorists would want to leave no doubt in our minds about what happened, and there is certainly doubt in this case.

2) The terrorists want to attack symbols of American military and economic might, Osama bin Laden said this in a recent interview. Queens is not a beacon of American greatness.

3) It sounds like the engine had an "uncontained failure" i.e., a fan blade or other engine component broke loose and flew through the engine cowling and possibly into the fuel tanks in the wings, starting a fire. These types of accidents are not uncommon (Sioux City crash, etc.) It would be virtually impossible for a terrorist to make this type of failure happen by a deliberate act. These types of accidents are caused by minute cracks in engine components that are widened by continued use and finally cause a breakage. If a terrorist tried to sabotage the engine, they would have to walk an impossibly fine line. If they did too much damage to the engine, the plane would never leave the gate. If they did too little damage to the engine nothing would've happened, and we would never even know sabotage had taken place.

On a personal note, I am pissed off at the sensationalist news media. They are instilling as much fear in the American people as the attacks did. This is an incredibly tragic accident at an unfortunate time, nothing more.
