... in the UK, the law says a speedometer must not read more than 10% high and must not read low at all (i.e. +10%/-0%), between 10 and 70 MPH. For a manufacturer, to build something to a 0% tolerance is simply impossible, so most of them shoot for halfway along whatever band they have chosen (which cannot be >10% in the UK). Say they go for +/-5%, the average would have to be 5% fast so that a speedo on the really slow side would not read slow.
Does the car consistently read 3MPH faster (i.e. 3MPH when you're not moving) or is it actually fast by some percentage of your actual speed?
