Some more Euro Ncap Results are out.
Ford has been running many TV ads about how
safe their new Ford Mondeo is...
BMW was praising itself about the new 3 series...
In the end only the score counts!
As a reference our SAABs and their score:
Saab 9-3 Front 50% Side 100% Tested in 1999
Saab 9-5 Front 81% Side 100% Tested in 1998
The best: Renault Laguna Front 94% Side 100% Tested in 2001
Considering that 3 out of 4 crashes are frontal
and 1 out of 4 side impacts, front crash worthiness
is 3 times more important which gives us these overall
scores.
Saab 9-3 63.4% "Fair"
Saab 9-5 85.75% "Very Good"
Renault Laguna 95.5% "Excellent"
Here the results of the old and new 3 series:
1997 Old 3 series: Front 13% Side 44% overall 20.75% "Very Poor"
2001 New 3 Series: Front 63% Side 83% overall 68% "Fair"
The new 3 series is not much better then a much
older Saab 9-3... not much to add about how BMW overstates its
safety.
Ford was bashing on TV about its new Ford Mondeo...
they should not.
Old 1997 Mondeo: Front 31% Side 67% overall 40% "Poor"
New 2001 Mondeo: Front 56% Side 100% overall 67% "Fair"
Looks like SAAB still has quite a lead on others, the 9-5
does well for a car much older then others, the 9-3 also
still does ok.
Overall score rating: (I think those are fair)
0-29% "Very Poor"
30-49% "Poor"
50-69% "Fair"
70-79% "Good"
80-89% "Very Good"
90-100% "Excellent"
Regards,
Coolknight
