If you have W98 or later click Start, Run and then enter msconfig and enter. Choose Startup tab and look for name of program with AIM or similar elements. uncheck it and choose ok. If more than one choose all that are suspect. You will have to restart according to instructions that will pop up. This does not preclude opening the program when you want to. Other programs that you don't need at startup can also be unchecked (do this one at a time so that you do not cause a problem). Good luck!
