Italians having some of the nicest
freeways in Europe decided that
the EU idea of 130 Km/h was nonsense
on their 3 lane freeways and icreased
it to 150 Km/h as of 1.1.2003

Considering that per driven mile
the accident/death rate is the same in Germany
then in the USA, but that the Germans
don't have a speed limit on many of
their freeways... the above makes sense.

Many EU countries are crying foul!
They always come back with the speed
kills argument... which after analysis
shows that up to 40% of all deadly
crashes are due to technical problems
(low tire pressure and so on).

Even so the Italians drive a bit crazy
they have a lower death rate due to
traffic accidents then similar size France.
