Both seem to be good ideas,but like anything, the best way to confirm that is to test it. Pilots have been using heads up displays for a long time, but they do not have to stare into lines of mile long traffic, so how it would really work in a driving environment remains to be tested by large numbers of people. In theory,instead of outside rear view mirrors, you could also have small video cameras mounted that could receive an image of traffic, and dissplay that on a windshield mounted display screen as well. This would eliminate the bulky,expensive, and high drag mirrors on cars as well. How would the images be presented undera wide variety of ambient lighting conditions? That would have to be tested.Possibly infra red imaging would work better than regular video,since ambient lighting would have no effect on it.
Night vision? Cadillac sells it for about 2kilobucks. I think it has to be a 300 dollar option to sell in large numbers. If they can bring the cost down,it makes a lot of sense.
