I opened the SID of a friend of mine and found that the conductive strip that connects the LCD display to the gold plated contact points on the copper tracks on the PCB, was not making good contact. I have seen and corrected this problem before on a NOKIA mobile phone display.
In the case of the SID display, I cut a 2 millimeter strip off a piece of double sided tape and stuck it to the other side of the LCD display. When the whole thing is put back together, the extra tension from the tape forces the LCD display to make better contact with the conductive strip, and therefore the contacts on the circuitboard.
I am looking for another SID to try this modification to see if I am correct, orr just lucky. But I would appreciate it if someone else can also try and see if this fix does work. The SAAB community has been searching for a fix to this problem, and hopefully I got it right!
