I drove my 2001 Aero Wagon on a 4500 mile trip from WA to CO when it only had 3000 miles on it. That was the best road trip I _ever_ had. Saabs are made to run, and the HOT engines are superb at high altitudes (once on boost - off boost it can feel like someone threw out an anchor). It is certainly hard to have to keep the speed down, but depending which route you take, there are places you can pick up the pace, as long as you have a good detector.
In the West you will find that you can maintain excellent speed on some of the less-used secondary highways. Don't limit yourself to the Interstates or you will be bored silly for much of the trip. Until you get to the ROckies ;).
I recommend crossing Colorado by the southern route (Hwy 160) and spending one day exploring the Durango/ Four Corners area before continuing on. Wolf Creek Pass (10,840 ft) is wonderful, and that part of the state is full of Saab roads. Silverton and Mesa Verde are cool.
If you will need an oil change while on the trip, be sure to phone ahead to the dealer a couple of days ahead of time to be sure he can fit you in. But I expect you could wait and have the 5000 mile service done in CA when you arrive.
Consider installing StonGard before you go. It may save your paint and lights some expensive damage.
