As with the majority of the older Mercedes models, I would imagine that you virtually have to send a tank shell through the hood to kill a 190. Even today, many 190s seem to be on the road and in good condition. The father of a friend of mine only recently sold his '84 500SEL in order to move up to a newer S500. The old car has several hundred thousand miles on it and still runs like a champ, not to mention having the biggest steering wheel I think I have ever seen. I imagine 190s are pretty reliable, as they are/were popular. I guess what I never liked about the 190s was the connotation that they carried. 190s were always poser Benzes on my opinion. My late father used to call them "baby Benzes." Also, many ricers seem to have gotten their hands on 190s and Dinanized them. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with the car itself, I just don't like the poser image that I think it has.
