"From the United Arab Emirates to New Zealand, even Rolls-Royce and Bentley have more cachet than GM's contenders."
Okay, which brand has more cachet than RR and Bentley anyway? Aren't they like the top of the totem pole? Why else would BMW and Audi fight over the brands? Why else would MB resurrect the Maybach brand to compete with them? Does the scribe even know what the word "cachet" means? If it's "ubiquitousness" that he/she is searching, being unique is certainly no sin.
$40k for an Aero? Has the scribe ever actually price out a car at the dealer? Not to mention that 9-5 wagon has much more room than an Outback. The next 9-3 will probably be comparable to Outback in size.
