I just read an article on the website
from AUTOMOTORUNDSPORT about Europe's
2001 TOP FLOPS among new cars...
Some cars which one would believe that
they did good, well don't sell well.
2001s TOP car FLOPS (sales wise)
1) Fiat Stilo, similar in size to VW GOLF
doesn't sell. Main reason, price... who would
pay the same price then one pays for a GOLF
for a FIAT? FIAT was always into cheap cars
and now they're stuck there...
2) Citroen C5, ultra complex and ugly looking
the C5 did just as I expected... It doesn't sell.
For the Price of a V6 C5 you can buy a 530 or a
9-5 AERO... and customers do just that, they buy
something else.
3) NEW BMW 7 series, 735 and 745
Customers dislike the design and I-Drive
as well, further porblems with the abusive
power use of I-Drive (always empty battery)
and idle problems of the new V8 engines
don't make it easy for BMW to sell em...
Look out for STEEP discounts as BMW
strugles to sell 50000 of them this year.
In fact right now stocks are plentyfull
and you can get one in days instead
of months...
4) NEW MINI.. now ain't that a cool car :)
Sure is until you notice that for the same price
as a Mini Cooper you can buy a loaded GOLF GTI
or a BASE 9-3 and that for the price of the
Mini CooperS you can get yourself a Audi S3 or
a WRX STi... as a result sales are weak
while interest is high... in fact for 2001
MINI was barely able to sell 25000 MINIs.
5) Opel Speedster...
All plastic build 147HP Speedster doesn't sell...
And considering that for the price you can
get a 9-5 SE or a 330i or a V6 GOLF or a BMW Z3
people don't buy em... in any case who would
want a 147HP sports car with a mid engine
that lacks a Turbo?... the car also lacks
space and unless you're 5'3 you won't fit...
