I run Mobil 1 synthetic 15W-50 with a mobil 1 filter on my '85 SPG that has 290K miles, I used to use Mobil 1 10W-30, but for some reason, it seemed to burn it up, the heavier oil remains at the right level longer. I have read a lot of different opinions, some like Mobil 1, others wont use it, some like synthetic, others dont, I have read that synthetic oil is better for turbocharged engines. I just pikced up a nice 1986 SPG that has 167K miles, the previous owner had tune-ups/oil changes done by a SAAB mechanic, who told him he likes to stick with regular 10W-30 oil, such as Havoline, or Penzoil. Does it really matter or not if it's synthetic? I change my oil/filter religiously every 3K miles, and someone told me that it's a waste if I use synthetic oil because it only needs changing around every 5-6K miles. Whar are you guys using for oil? What is the best for a higher mileage SAAB?
thanks
