Ha! I think the top model looks bland - just another jelly-bean shaped sedan. The lower models will be painfully more bland (blander?). My '96 9000 looks better and better all the time - at least it looks different from other cars, whereas the new 9-3 looks like all the other cars in its class.

SAAB just made competition more difficult for itself, since no one will buy a SAAB anymore because it has a unique "look." SAAB's guts/internals (suspension, handling, engines, drivetrains) will have to be BETTER than its competition if it hopes to win sales away from BMW, Audi, et all.

From a styling perspective, there's something very wrong with that rear window design - it just doesn't look balanced. And what happened to SAAB's "traditional" clam-shell hood design, that SAAB trumpeted so much with the 9-5? What's good for the goose (9-5) isn't good for the gander (9-3) after all, I guess.

I know, I'm just an old fart who complains about anything new! But I do think it's a shame that SAAB wasted this opportunity to come out with a new 9-3 that was truly different and better than all of its competitors. The opportunity to introduce a new model comes only about every 8 to 10 years at SAAB - what a shame to waste that opportunity designing something that looks like everybody else!
