I've carried at one time my 18'fiberglass 'yak (about 55 lbs), my poly 16.5' yak (about 65 lbs), two poly poke boats (10' long, about 35 lbs each) and a light bicycle. 4 boats and a bike. Never had any problem with overheating. Crosswinds are a hoot, though. Properly secured, I'll hit 70 mph on non-windy days. Windy days, I drop down to 60-65.
You wouldn't overheat due to weight load - that's the weight of one (larger) person. As to wind resistance, I definately feel the car is a little slower. But I'm usually going on vacation, and the car is loaded to the gills anyway. But kayaks are pretty streamlined front to back - that's why the go so nicely in the water - so we're not talking a big aerodynamic load here, not like sticking a dresser up there.
I've never had any problem. If your cooling system is marginal, it won't help. But if your cooling system is in decent shape, it should be no problem.
Good luck!
