5 speed, luxury package (sunroof & alloy wheels), monsoon stereo, CD, and leather (heated). It's actually a pretty decent car, but it was difficult to find because of the manual tranny. There is really not much out there that can compare to it for what it cost (about 25K). It's a pretty good value in base trim but this goes away quickly when you start adding options. especially if you go all the way for the W8 (almost 40K for a VW?! yeh right). I actually like the 1.8t and feel that it has plenty of power to move the wagon around (then again I drive a 900S so most cars seem powerful to me).
If you ask most VW owners they will tell you that VW service is well below par. My experience has been that the service guys do really annoying things like leaving greasy fingerprints interior of the car after service, overfilling the engine oil, and forgetting to put back engine cover fastners.
As has been mentioned the seats are very uncomfortable after prolonged drives. I believe they are the reason you can roll the windows up from the outside with a key( like in the Jetta commercial); VW's engineers knew that you would not want to spend even a few extra seconds sitting in them while waiting for the windows to roll up :)
We did consider getting another Saab 9-3 but my wife had her heart set on a wagon for the utility. We also looked at the jetta wagon but it was too small. Plus this is actually her second Passat. We had a 2001 wagon but it was totalled after being in a collision with a tractor trailer. My wife walked away with only a few bruises and a cut on her forehead. So it was pretty hard to say no to another one after that.
Sorry this ended up being so long. I hope it is helpful.
