I guess we are. The first new car (non SAAB) I purchased had a misaligned hood. When I requested that it be re-aligned, the sevice manager informed me that I had not bought a MB. He slammed it down to see if that would help, at which point I figured I didn't want their mechanics touching it ever. Needless to say I've never considered buying from that manufacturer (USA) again.
When I bought my first Japanese car the front passenger carpeting didn't sit flush with the floor. The service dept assured me they were all like that and took me into the showroom where he demonstrated that they were in fact all poorly fitted. The car ran for 18yrs with virtually no problems, but I couldn't get over them selling cars they knew had poorly installed carpeting when new, and then would not correct it. (1000 mile chkup- heater cable busted & 1 or 2 other minor defects corrected)
When I purchased a new 1997 9000, the salesman told me no matter how small the problem, to let the service dept know about it. Fast forward to the 1000 mile service. There was literally nothing wrong with the car but I felt obligated to have some sort of list after the commment by the sales rep. The best I could come up with was the headliner was ~1/4" lower on the left. This could only be seen when the hatch was open and you leaned inside. You would have thought I was Leona Helmsley by their reaction. They replaced the entire liner. This scared me half to death because I assumed it wouldn't be as good as the original. Wrong! It fit perfectly. Five years later still no problem with the headliner. And nothing but minor problems ever. Always fixed by the dealer on the first try under warranty(knock wood). Amazing. Dealer service isn't cheap, but if they are any good it more than makes up for the price.
