according to UK magazine CAR, at least!

The car was apparently 90pc finished and was much larger than the X5 it would have competed with but what killed it was 1/ it was costing too much to differentiate it from the Caddy SRX 2/ the lack of a suitable diesel engine for the European market and last, but not least 3/ it bombed in customer clinics (as did the SRX which Cadillac will build in late 2003)

There is also a rumour that if GM does buys the remaining shares in Fiat that Saab and Alfa will work very closely together to the point of sharing platforms and dealerships in Europe. There are also rumours going around that the 9-3X will be built on GM Europe's smaller Delta platform which seems odd to me as that is one helluva small platform to be building a sporty SUV type vehicle on.

The magazine also had an article on the 9-3SS stating that the new car is 200pc more rigid than the current 9-3 platform and that the new car will easily match the capabilities of a BMW 3 and beat the Audi A4. Interestingly, Saab has stated that Audi is its main target. As we all know the 9-3SS shares the same Epsilon platform as the new Opel Vectra which was also tested in the magazine and received top marks for its handling and smooth progress. Lets hope Saab does give its competition a real headache :)
