Yes, all 9-3's (in the USA) are 4 cylinder turbos. The same is NOT true of NG900's. That's one reason I held out and leased a 9-3 instead of buying a newer used NG900 in 2000.
Some (maybe all?) 1999 9-3's used the T5 enginge management system, newer ones use T7. The difference?????
What's more robust? well they say 1000's of changes were made between the 2, but how big were they really? If it's up to me, get a low miles car, with some warranty left, and HAVE IT INSPECTED by an indepentant mechanic. All that said, I love my 9-3!
