that a car of this stature is being purchased for an 18 year old. I work on a college campus and it is a sad thing when you see that a 5 year old car is considered a beater. Amazing that parents buy a brand new $27K car or SUV for Johnny or Sally and foot the $32K school cost as well. Only 20 years ago, you would be lucky to simply own any car while a student, now there are so many that there is no room for them on campus, thus why freshman in many cases can't bring them. My roommate had a 10 year old 99 that lost an engine on 95 and later literally went up in flames outside a store, but only a $700 loss.
Too bad that parents can't understand that a car is not a neccessity on campus and the fact that a $10K used one is plenty good enough.
