Took my car in yesterday for a normal scheduled maintenance and just a "all around going over" for my trip coming up this Sunday, I'll be driving a bit over 1000 miles each way heading down to Florida for a visit.
I do not bring my car to a dealer for maintenance, or anything else for that matter, I had a couple of very bad experiences in the service departments and refuse to subject myself, or my car,to their questionable service. The guy who works on my car is a Saab Master Tech, he has been running his own shop, and working on Saab and Volvo exclusively for the past 23 years, he really knows his stuff! And after what happened yesterday, I'm POSITIVE he knows more than the dealer's service crew!
I'm sitting in the waiting area, and these two guys come in wearing matching polo shirts with the local Saab dealers logo and name imprinted on the shirts...they were DROPPING OFF A CAR FOR SERVICE TO MY MASTER TECH!!! Hello...what's that all about? Anyway, I asked the girl behind the desk why would a dealer, who has their own service department, drop a car off here? She tells me they do it ALL THE TIME when their own guys don't know what to do...At first I was shocked, the dealer tries to tell you that nobody, but their service departments should work on your Saab, but they don't know what is up with the cars either!! The shop I bring my car to is a family business, and the girl who works behind the counter is the owner's daughter, she knows more about cars than anybody I have ever met, I guess her dad has taught her well.
At first I was shocked at what I had seen, I mean a dealer, bringing a car in to an independant shop because "they don't know what is wrong with the car!" But than, having had first hand experience with their questionable services, I didn't doubt that they don't have a clue.
All in all, it made me feel GREAT knowing that my car is getting the best service and care...even the dealer thinks so...LOL!
