May I suggest an old "classic", the Rhodes-19. They are usually found in a "fixed" keel configuration that draws four to five feet; however, O'Day (the original maker), made the R-19 as a keel-centerboard also (draws less than 18" with 'board up). The Rhodes is a true "daysailer" with only a small "cuddy" cabin ... no "head", no galley, no nothing. Simply a light, well built and designed (far superior to the build quality of Hunter IMHO), easy to sail sailboat for afternoons on the water. Oh, and they can be had for as little as $ 4,500.00, trailor included! An R-19 that has been "cherried" for the race course may go as high as $ 15,000.00, but who needs that?

The R-19 is raced competitively from Long Island Sound to New England to Chicago to the Gulf Coast so there are plenty of folks about to talk to, plenty of retired "race" boats that only need TLC to return to their original beauty, parts abound, and you can find retired racing sails on the cheap. (Nothing wrong with retired racing sails ... serious folks buy a new set every year and have old sails to dispose of ... they've also been well cared for)

Well that's just my $ 0.02; check out the link below for more info from the Rhodes-19 National Class website.

Good Luck and Happy Sailing!
