I have limited experience with AAA, but I don't like them. I went thru them for auto insurance (Massachusetts) and after their $50 membership fee, my supposed big savings turned into a $10 loss compared to my old insurer.
And to top it off, the AAA agent was slimy. I was insuring an old car and asked for some sort of limited collision insurance. He said all they had was some high priced plan, even after pushing him on this. I finally said I didn't want any collision coverage, and then he immediately tells me about an intermediate plan. Jerk! (I didn't take any collision.) If I had more time I'd go elsewhere. When it's time to renew, I'll go back to my previous carrier.
Lastly, I was with a friend who's car broke down on a major highway (Route 95/128) just 10 miles outside of Boston. AAA referred him to a towing company (he had to call himself). After almost an hour with no-show, he called the towing company who now claimed his location was on the border of their coverage area and wouldn't come. We called AAA, got another company and the same damn thing happened. AAA was no help. It was only after begging one of the tow companies that we got help... after 2 hours! My belief is that AAA has low limits on what they will pay the tow companies, so there is minimal interest in towing you if there is other work available. AAA = last served?
