The rear fog light usually makes tailgaters back off- looks like the brake lights.
If that doesn't work, the weather looks good, and you're expecting to be in a situation where you'll be tailgated (like on the highway just before a long weekend) I find this works nicely (if you have a 9-5 wagon):
1. Go out behind your car and find the plastic cap over the pivot for the rear wiper.
2. Remove the cap by hinging it up and then pulling out.
You now have your very own tailgater gun. When the offending person gets too close- give your rear window a bit of a wash- since the cover isn't directing the fluid at your window it goes straight back in a nice arc. It has enough range to get any tailgater. This works especially well when someone who has obviously spent a lot of time detailing your car is tailgating you!
