Hey Jo,
Not to sound like a broken record here, but my personal experience is similar to other's postings. I bought an 86 900 Turbo with 185K miles for $3,250. I've put another 105K on it and spent about a total of $3,600 in the process on non-maintenance items, including a tranny rebuild, new lower control arms, water pump, oil pump gears, cv joints, fuel pump, crank seal, harmonic balancer. Not counting maintenance, I'm nearly $7,000 into a 16 y/o car that I dearly love. I figure for that amount of money, there isn't anything else that I would want to drive.
Saabs are like lovers. Find the right one and it's a lifetime relationship. But, like love, it requires that you put some effort into it. Get to know your car, learn where it's weak spots are, get things fixed before they break, drive it with care and love, and you'll have a great Saab experience. Ignore it, abuse it and you may as well burn up your money. Or better yet, send it to me. I'm saving up for an engine/turbo rebuild!!!
Cheers,
Dan
