South of Big Sur, right on the coast on the bluff, is a small restaurant with come cabins to rent out on the point. The place is called Lucia. There's a black cook/waiter, I can't remember his name, a charming fellow who's been there for umpteen years, who said we should check out the monastery a couple of miles south of Lucia. There's a big sign on the east side of the road for the monastery, follow the road up to it for the specatacular view and the gift shop is a must see. The monks are artists and the gift shop is full of incredible art. The church itself is open also so make sure you tour that too. And they rent rooms! Enjoy.
