Ralphie thought he was teaching Tony a lesson, but really he gave Tony an oppurtunity. Ralphie was thinking "Oh it's your horse to Tony, wht don't you go take care of it." Well Tony did and guess what, now it is Tony's horse too. Tony can always take what ever he wants from his crew, but if he's too greedy it hurts his leadership. Nobody likes Ralphie but if the other guys saw him holding his hand the way he did at the track they might think " I hope he doesn't pull that on me." So he got his horse cause Ralphie gave him a chance to earn it.
Ralphie: "Your horse Tony?"
Tony: "Who went in the middle of the night in the pouring rain to pay some crooked vet to help that goddamn horse? If it wasn't for me that horse would be dead!"
