Analyze and you'll see numbers speak louder than reality. October was a time when there were extremely little 9-3s on dealer's lots. The old ones were gone, and the new ones are starting to arrive. Dealers pretty much had only the 9-3 convertible and 9-5 to sell.
9-5 sales were awful though. Saab really needs to get the marketing together. Hopefully Saab's new COO, Debra Kelly, can shake things up. Saab has to be more aggressive with their marketing. The 9-5 is clearly a superior car compared to many of its competitors. The new 9-3 is an exceptional vehicle as well which is ready for primetime, unlike the older 9-3 (let's face it, the public didn't like the "quirkyness" and torque steer)
The good news from all of this bad news is that I'm sure Saab will have some very attractive finance and lease programs for the remainder of the year in an attempt to save what was a strong sales year for Saab.
